REVISION SHEET ( June 8th WEEK)

Read and revise what you already know.

*Do you remember how plants make their own food?
Water and minerals in the soil are taken by the roots of the plants and transported to the leaves.

Carbondioxide  in the air is taken from the tiny pores present on the surface of the leaves. These pores are called as Stomata.

The leaves have the green pigment called as the cholorophyll.

Cholorophyll helps the leaves to capture the energy of the sunlight. This energy is used to synthesis food from the carbondioxide and water.

Since the synthesis of food occurs in the presence of sunlight, the process is called as the photosynthesis.

The solar energy is captured by the leaves and stored in the plant in the form of food.

*Do you remember how plants reproduce?

The reproductive organs of the plants are in the flowers.

The stamens are the male parts of the flower. They produce pollen.

The pistil is the female part of the flower. It is shaped like a bottle. It consists of the stigma, the style and the ovary.

Pollination is the transfer of pollen from the stamens of one flower to the stigma of another flower.

Animal pollination: some plants have very beautiful flowers with colourful petals and sweet nectar. The petals and nectar attract insects. Then, pollen sticks to their bodies. The insects carry the pollen from one flower to another.

Wind pollination: Other plants have long stamens The wind carries to other flowers.

After the pollen grains reach the stigma, the grains travel down the style to the ovary. Inside the ovary, pollen reaches the ovule and

then fertilization occurs. The fertilized ovule grows into a seed.

And a fruit forms. The seeds are inside the fruit.
